The Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunrise was chartered in August, 2001 and held its charter dinner on September 10, 2001, the evening before the devastating events now known to the world as 9/11.  That infamous day sealed a bond with our 42 charter members and all new members inducted since that day.

As a fledgling club, we were thrust into service and co-produced an ambitious concert fundraiser including twelve local bands over twelve hours held to benefit the stricken families.  Aside from the camaraderie established during the planning and subsequently the event itself, we found that we could work hard to benefit the community and the world and also have a blast doing it.

That was the day we added a fifth question to the four-way test . . . is it FUN?  The answer is always in the affirmative!

Every third grader in Lahaina has received a dictionary, because we are here.

If you are walking through hot, hot Lahaina Town and pass by King Kamehameha 3rd elementary school, that comforting green park, was our Centennial Project under Past President Bonnie West

We participated in an excellent project started by another club in Kauai, Grow Our Own Teacher. Our first teacher is from the island of Molokai and she has been an excellent choice. As we give back to the people of Hawaii. This was introduced to us by Past President Karen "Can Do" Kondo

We started in West Maui a Safety Fair for our community in conjunction with The Lahaina Cannery Mall and Maui Electric.

Over the last few years, we have helped our Maui County high school seniors with over $850,000.00 of Scholarships for higher education. Some for the University of Hawaii and also our most prestigious Universities. This was through the Hawaii Rotary Youth Foundation which was started by one of our quiet members, Maurice Sullivan of Foodland.
